A Tour at TeleTech

I first heard of TeleTech when the call center company put up a team in the Philippine Basketball League, the predecessor of the PBA D-League, when I was still a college freshman. The formation of the team was timely because it came at a time that BPO's were on the rise. In fact, I tried to apply at Teletech, only that my time does not fit its time. Finally, I got a chance to check out one of Teletech's offices in Mandaluyong City.

Teletech actually began in 1982 by Ken Tuchman at an abandoned nursery school. Eventually, it grew to a multinational company that put up offices in the Philippines beginning in 2001. The first TeleTech Philippines office was at the Bonifacio Global City in Taguig. The Taguig office eventually moved to the Makati Eco Plaza in Makati in 2009. The Mandaluyong office/training center was built in 2011 at the Robinson's Cybergate Plaza just beside Forum Robinson's. The following year, it became the TeleTech Global Network Operations Center.

After taking a glimpse at the recruitment hub, I went straight to the training room for some talks and what made TeleTech unique from other BPO's. TeleTech looks at proximity in terms of putting up its offices. Thus, the establishment of offices in places where you least expect a call center would be put up like Fairview, Mexico, and the Boni-Guadalupe area. I also got a glimpse of how the new customer service representatives are being trained. TeleTech has been the preferred choice by many call canter agents, especially those who moved to other call centers.

What's more, TeleTech also offer non-call center jobs, so if you're looking for a big career, go to TeleTech. Visit its website at teletechjobs.com or email the office at hotjobs@teletech.com. You can also call TeleTech at (02)9813106 or (02)4612011.

That 70's Feels

The Village People hurled both the American and the Philippine flags while
singing their hit single "In the Navy". Ted Claudio
I got a very hectic (and toxic) day yesterday. I watched the Azkals-Maldives game on live stream by midnight, and then I went straight (with a little sleep) to a game of ultimate frisbee in Track 30. Afterward, I had to cover a soft launch of an auto-related mobile app and a press conference of a hackathon/world record attempt in Makati. But all the fatigue was gone after getting a super rare chance to see the Village People live in flesh.

For a guy who was born in 1988 (way after the prime of the boy band's career), finally seeing VP live was a totally different experience. At first, I felt awkward being in a crowd full of people who were, if not foreigners, Filipino who once went loco with the band during its heyday in the 70's and the early 80's. Still, I went on my feet, especially when they sang the ever chart-topping "YMCA".

Also, I just found out that the group aims to make our generation do the groove too with the release of its new single "Let's Go Back to the Dance Floor".

My hectic day ended in a cool manner, thanks Grace Nicolas of Zoomanity Group for a crazy ride back to the 70's.

Lamudi Expands Operation in Asia

Fast-growing property portal continues global expansion with Sri Lanka launch.

Leading real estate player Lamudi (www.lamudi.com) is expanding its presence in Asia, with the platform launching in Sri Lanka this week.

Lamudi is now available in seven new markets across Asia, the Middle East and Africa, with launches also announced today for Jordan, the Ivory Coast, Mozambique, Madagascar, Mauritius and Zimbabwe. This brings the number of countries where the platform is available to 28.

Lamudi is a global property portal operating exclusively in emerging markets. The company benefits from the resources and local know-how of teams in each of its countries, with support from global headquarters in Berlin.

Co-Founder and Managing Director, Paul Philipp Hermann, said: “Countries like Sri Lanka have the perfect trifecta for online property: each has a strong real estate market, growing rate of internet usage, and a young and vibrant demographic.

We are expanding our presence in Asia because, quite simply, we could see ademand that was not being met. As more people in each of these markets switch online, they want to have access to the same resources that are available elsewhere.

Whether its buying a house in Sri Lanka or renting an apartment in Jordan, Lamudi is helping to meet the growing demand for e-commerce in emerging markets.”

Wilhelm Hammes, Managing Director of Lamudi Sri Lanka (www.lamudi.lk)said: “Now is the perfect time to be entering the Sri Lankan market. The property sector has seen significant growth since 2009, as infrastructure has improved and investors have come back. We want to be there to grow alongside this thriving industry.”

Lamudi is already on track to being the number one real estate marketplace in the region. Launched just six months ago, the company now offers 340,000 property listings worldwide across its platforms.

In Asia, Lamudi is already market leader in two countries, Bangladesh and Myanmar. The company recently announced $7 million USD in investment for its Asian operations, including funds from the investment arm of
international multi-sector retailer Tengelmann Group.

Founded in 2013, Lamudi is now operating in Algeria, Bangladesh, Cameroon, Colombia, Ethiopia, Ghana, Indonesia, Ivory Coast, Jordan, Kenya, Mauritius, Madagascar, Mexico, Morocco, Mozambique, Myanmar, Nigeria, Pakistan, Peru, Philippines, Rwanda, Saudi Arabia, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Tunisia, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

The coding marathon aims to devise apps by NGO's and government organizations for responding to the climate change.

Just Thai: My First Thai Food Experience

I haven't been into a Thai restaurant in my entire life. Much more, I haven't eaten any Thai dish; not even the Tom Yum flavor of Lucky Me Supreme Noodles. So I really made the most when good friend Kenny Ngo invited me and Ross Del Rosario to Just Thai along Burgos Circle in Taguig City.

I find it amusing that the restaurant design and the background music are totally Thai. What I really like more is the chandeliers, which are designed in flowers.
Now, on to the main agenda. We were first served Just Thai's iced tea. It's the same as the Nai Cha or milk tea you would see in other establishments, but what makes it unique is that the tea leaves are fresh from Thailand.

And then... Tom Yum!
What I like about the soup was the aroma and how the chefs cooked the mushrooms and shrimps. I was really reminded of sinigang; it's just that the addition of mushrooms made the Tom Yum different.

But that's not it. We were also served Tom Kha Gai or the Chicken in Coconut Milk Soup. It turned out to be a blockbuster that I consumed the soup almost all by myself and still wanting for more!

Then the appetizers. We first tried Gai Sate or grilled chicken served with a peanut dip. I was like, "Chicken and peanut sauce? Really!?" After taking some bites, "Wow! They make a good match!"

Now, the real jawbreakers! First up was the Moo Sam Chan Yang or grilled pork in tamarind sauce. Again, I got curious, "Tamarind as a dip? Isn't that even sourer than vinegar?" Again, after tasting the dip, "Tamarind dip is cool after all!" Turns out, the tamarinds use are also from Thailand, and the taste of the tamarinds there is sweet unlike our local ones. If the dip was different from what I think, so was the tamarind juice coupled with it.
I liked the pork dish the same way former beauty queen Alma Concepcion did.

Although I'm not a fan of seafoods, I really like the Squid in Garlic and Pepper, especially how the dish was prepared.

If you were to go to Just Thai, though, you should try the Chicken in Pandan Leaves. The flavor of the chicken dish is totally unique. Try it on your own and you be the judge.

Finally, the desserts. We tried the coconut pudding, and it's a good dessert. But the sellout was the Khao Niaow Ma Muang or the Mangoes in Sticky Rice. The presentation alone is a blockbuster. Just like how the others said about the dessert, we hesitated at eating it, but eventually, we had to destroy the design.
I was satisfied in my first ever trip to a Thai resto. So if you want to experience the same way I had, go to Just Thai along Forbes Town Center in Taguig, Two E-Com Center in Pasay, and Molito Commercial Center in Muntinlupa. Like its Facebook page for more.

COMELEC Spokesman Jimenez Meets Elabram Staff

James Jimenez speaks at Elabram about COMELEC's WalkAh
WalkAh campaign. Grace Nicolas
To get further mileage of his office's current pre-election drive, James Jimenez, the spokesperson of the Commission on Election, spoke to the employees of the Elabram Systems at the latter's office in Makati City.

Elabram officer Grace Nicolas, a good friend of Jimenez, invited the COMELEC spokesman to the Elabram office to discuss the latest on the ongoing WalkAh WalkAh election registration campaign and how the company can help the government's suffrage arm in this poll awareness drive.

As of press time, the WalkAh WalkAh team, which started walking from Laoag to give everyone a chance to make his vote in the 2016 elections count, is now in Gerona, Tarlac, and the campaign will continue to early June at the Rizal Park in Manila.

Jimenez, however, said that his team is now preparing for the Southern Luzon leg of the said campaign. The WalkAh WalkAh team will first visit key areas in Laguna and will continue until it ends up in Sorsogon.

He also added that some people from Visayas approach him about their own version of WalkAh WalkAh.

Residence Inn: The President and His Place in Tagaytay by Grace Nicolas

A young visitor feeding one of the camels you will see at the Residence Inn.
Grace Nicolas
Grace Nicolas, a good friend of mine, revealed an interesting fact about the Residence Inn in Tagaytay City. Who would have thought a former president once stayed in what would become a hotel and mini-zoo? Check out her report below, and I quote...

"For most of you, the Residence Inn in Tagaytay City is just another bed & breakfast hotel, but for some, especially to the patrons of the Zoomanity Group, where the hotel is one of its six operated facilities, it has some more to offer.

Aside from the zipline, the cable car, and the animal encounter, it is also, most of all, an ancestral home of the daughter of a former president.

Former President Jose P. Laurel must be proud that his daughter turned the house to a place not only for them to enjoy with a million dollar view of Taal Volcano but for everyone who wants to experience how it feels like to be in this presidential residence.

Robert Yupangco, the son of Potenciana Laurel-Yupangco, the daughter of Former President Laurel, made everything possible.

His passion and love for animals is obvious with the different species now at Residence Inn. It is not just for accommodation but also for conservation of different animals.

Also, check out the delicious bulalo at Residence Inn. The bulalo is not your usual serving. The restaurant makes sure that the soup is hot the whole time, so along with the dish is a heater just for you that will make your bulalo hot and boiling, while the designated waiter is there to make sure you have everything you ordered. Residence Inn truly is walking the talk because of their amazing culture of service.

For the animal encounter, do not miss the photo souvenirs with the white Burmese Python or with the friendly owl.

Kids and kids at heart can also enjoy feeding the camel or the donkey for only PHP20. What an exciting way to spend with family this summer!

The Residence Inn is giving away free entrance for the Green Magic Show until May 31. So what are you waiting for? Check its website at http://www.zoomanity.com.ph or like its Facebook page for details."

Surprise! Montero Family Unveiled as New Victoria Court Ambassadors

The Victoria Court named the Montero Family as its new ambassadors as part
of its rebranding.
The Victoria Court begins its rebranding as the hotel company tapped Troy Montero, his wife Aubrey, and their son Hunter as its newest ambassadors.

Victoria Court made the reveal in front of the press people at its Malate hotel with Managing Director Ian King joining the family.

"They're a great couple, and they embody the things we like in the company," King explained why he chose Troy and Aubrey.

"It all began when we met after Aubrey's birthday," Troy recalled their first talk about the ambassadorship deal.

After King revealed the offer, Troy reacted, "This is a cool idea." He also said that Ian told about the new direction Victoria Court is heading at.

"With social media being the king nowadays, we decided to look for people who will represent us in terms of imaging," added King on how he began reaching out to the Monteros, who are known to be active on the internet.

Also, he said that the hotel wants to voice out to the people that it's not what they it is anymore and that it already changed and grew up.

King also revealed the new themed rooms at Victoria Court's branches. Some of which were designed and even named after hit movies like "Casino Royale" and the Thor saga.

He also mentioned about the food the hotel serves. He said that they are comparable to that of five-star restaurants.

About the food, Aubrey said, "Everything there I loved." She also said that her friends were surprised that the hotel has begun serving such food.

The media people present got a taste of the new food being served by Victoria Court. They also got a glimpse of the Casino Royale and the Thor-themed Asgard rooms.

Qaldi Coffee Shop: Proof of the Economic Boost in the Muntinlupa City Proper

The Alabang district is the center of commerce of the city of Muntinlupa for a very long time, but in the recent years, the economic boom in the city has now been extended to its Poblacion. One example of it is the case of the Putatan district, where the city hall lies. Now, you would see some shopping areas and even cool restos in the district, and one of the food hubs to see there is the Qaldi Coffee Shop.
From Qaldi's FB page
Joon Tianzon, the coffee shop owner, said that it was supposed to be named after his boss, but after they got more partners, they decided to stick with Qaldi, paying tribute to the Ethiopian guy who legends say first discovered the goodness of coffee beans. I first tried its black forest drink. What I first noticed about it is that it's more of a mocha drink. The mix of coffee and chocolate makes it unique.

Then came the sandwiches. First up is the tuna sandwich, and it's very delicious. The flavor of the tuna spread carried (apologies to the non-gamers for using DOTA/LOL terms) the taste.
I also tried the egg-and-cheese sandwich, and the scrambled egg stood out there. I also like how it was presented. It reminded me a lot of the flying saucer sandwich.
The chicken clubhouse sandwich also stood out in my taste. What I also like was the assembly of the sandwich. Also check out its Rueben clubhouse sandwich.
Now, the pastas. I tried the carbonara first, and it tastes good too. Having eaten carbonara a lot since my freshman days, this one was among the carbonaras that stood out for me.
And then, the pesto. Probably because of too much food eaten, it took me four tries before finally getting the goodness of it. Not to mention Tianzon saying that it's fully homemade.
One of Qaldi's newest additions is its rice meals. I first thought of trying its Greek Pork meal, but I settled with the grilled chicken. I find it appetizing.
Qaldi is located at the Minerva Vineyard, National Highway, Bgy. Putatan, Muntinlupa City, at the back of BPI Family Bank Putatan Branch, beside Max's Fired Chicken, and infront of Puregold Agro. To get there, from Alabang, simply ride a jeepney going to BiƱan or Muntinlupa City Proper and tell the driver to drop you off at Puregold Agro. From BiƱan, San Pedro, or Muntinlupa Proper, ride a jeepney back to Alabang and tell the driver the same thing I mentioned above. For inquiries and reservations, call (02)5511714 or 09154722126. Like its Facebook page too.

PS: Opening later in the year is an internet cafe where you can surf the cyberspace while sipping your favorite drinks. For gamers, though, Joon Tianzon told me that there will be no computer games for the meantime.

Kessaku Goes South in Alabang

I braved the ever disastrous EDSA traffic to make it at the Kessaku restaurant at the CommerCenter in Muntinlupa City. It was worth the travel as I was treated to sumptuous dinner.
I tried Shishamo first. The fish dish reminded me a lot of the Filipino recipe paksiw.
Then I tried its Angus Prime Cha Han. Since I had a very busy day, I ate a lot!
Of course, what's a Japanese restaurant if it's not serving tempura?
I really felt good after the dinner, so why not you try Kessaku? It's located at the heart of the Filinvest City. From the Festival Supermall, just exit at the Commerce Avenue gate and just walk straight ahead. For more information, check out its Facebook page or Kathy Ngo's own take about Kessaku.

Gordon Says Surveys Not That Reliable

Richard Gordon said that surveys are not enough to tell who the next presi-
dent should be. Philippine Daily Inquirer (file photo)
In the aftermath of a recent survey showing Vice President Jejomar Binay getting an early advantage in the 2016 presidential elections, former presidential aspirant Richard Gordon said that there are still more factors to be considered.

Interviewed by newspaper columnist Grace Nicolas, the current Philippine Red Cross head said, "I think qualifications and record of performance do not yet count in our country. There are powers that dictate who will be counted on surveys that manage mind sets."

"Unless merit, integrity, capability, and performance are considered, people are deprived of analytic decision-making and will only be exposed to what is served them by the powerful interests that run media, surveys et al," he added.

Gordon also called the Supreme Court to order the Commission on Elections to implement the mandatory anti-cheating rules added in the Automated Election Law. "Otherwise people will always lose," he warned if there will not be any movement today.

He concluded, "Record isn't enough at this stage. Powers dictate or create winnability over all standards. People will always as we have seen, be short changed. If those who care keep quiet and continue to accept the milieu we are lost."
